Government Minister Commends YWCA Scotland at AGM

Nov 2, 2011

The YWCA Scotland Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Saturday 24th September 2011.  The event at Craigsfarm Theatre in Livingston themed, ‘Inspiring Girls and Young Women’, featured young people sharing experiences of involvement in YWCA Scotland and how this has had a positive impact on their lives.

Angela Constance, Minister for Children and Young People in the Scottish Government, commended the achievements of YWCA Scotland.  Ms Constance said, ‘As well as delivering high quality resources for young people and the community, YWCA provides opportunities for young volunteers to develop their skills and experiences in areas that otherwise might not have been available to them.’

During the meeting the membership agreed to amalgamate the roles of YWCA Scotland President and Chair, which brings the organisation into line with the practice of other charities in Scotland and other YWCA Groups in Great Britain.  For the past year, Kimberley Swan has served as both Chair and President of YWCA Scotland and as a representative on the Board of YWCA Great Britain.

In addition, the Membership agreed that the Board could opt for an independent examination of accounts rather than a full audit, which is now permitted for charities with an annual income under £500,000 in Scotland.

It was with sadness that the membership accepted the resignation of Kirsten Verth, who has devoted many years of service to the YWCA Scotland Board, most recently as its Chair.  We all wish her the best for the future.  We were pleased to welcome Jolanta Lisicka as a new member of the Board of Trustees/Directors.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made the day such a success!
