Peer Education on Smoking Prevention

Members of the YWCA Livingston Intermediate Group organised and delivered training to younger children to raise their awareness of the risks of smoking in November 2010.  They were inspired to do this after completing training sessions on smoking awareness and prevention led by West Lothian Drugs and Alcohol Service.

Amy, Laura and Rebecca, with support from Smoking Prevention Worker, Bill Logan, worked with the younger girls to find out what they already knew about smoking and facilitated activities to increase their knowledge of the effects of smoking on the body.

According to Bill Logan, “It was a very good session.  The young women facilitated very well and worked well together, which made the session successful.  I would be delighted to support them in the future.”

Feedback from the young women who organised the training and the younger girls who took part was very positive and all felt they learned a lot from the experience.
