RECENT EVENTS

Gude Cause, 10th October 2009

Gude Cause was formed to mark the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage Movement Procession along Princes Street in 1909, and culminated in a large-scale recreation of the march. YWCA Scotland was central in the organisation of this event and was represented on the march by Clare Booth, Kirsten Verth, Kimberley Swan and Gemma Statham from the Board.

Clare said, "It was fantastic to see so many women's organisations, girls groups, charities, trade unions and political groups come together to commemorate the efforts of the Suffragettes and to celebrate women's achievements over the past 100 years.  We heard from several prominent female MPs and while we acknowledged that British politics have come a long way since 1909, women are still a minority in our parliament and we need to make our voices heard.  It was quite emotional as we realised that without the strength, courage and passion of these women we could live in a very different world, and we owe them a lot."

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY, 8th MARCH 2010

On Monday 8th March 6pm to 8pm we will be having an open night, at our Kirkcaldy Centre, to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The evening’s purpose will be to celebrate the girls and women who use YWCA Kirkcaldy and to celebrate their work and achievements from attending centre activities. It will also be an opportunity to publicise the work that YWCA Kirkcaldy does as well as highlight what IWD means to YWCA Kirkcaldy. We will be inviting all members, service-users, all YWCA Scotland and Livingston staff and board/LAC members, all local elected members, the community learning and development team, voluntary organisations as well as friends and family of those involved with YWCA Kirkcaldy. Refreshments will be available at this event.
