European YWCA Study Session 2016Written by Jemma Tracey
Last week Caroline and Jemma attended the European YWCA‘s study session in Strasbourg. The focus of this study session was to establish a network of young women that would use technology to translate the Sustainable Development Goals on the ground in their own countries. As part of this study session we had the opportunity to carry out workshops in our free evenings, so we decided to seize the opportunity and run a workshop on feminist poetry with our new pal Shabana.
We started off by screening three spoken word poems: For My Daughter by Katie Ailes, Take Up Space by Vanessa Kisuule, and For Women Who Are Difficult to Love by Warsan Shire. After each we asked participants to answer three questions relating to the theme of each poem. This left us with five beautiful pieces of poetry that we wrote together, exploring themes of relationships, feminism, and our hopes for the future. We are so excited to share these with you now!
We are so grateful to the incredible women behind this study session, it was a really special week and we can’t wait to push forward with our brand new network – watch this space!
