16 Days of Activism
Campaign
25th November – 10th December
As part of our commitment to raise awareness of Violence Against
Women we encourage all our local centres to participate in the 16
Days of Activism against Gender Violence.
What is the 16 days of Activism?
Over ten years ago, individuals and groups from all over the world
started organising activities during the 16 days of activism against
violence against women to raise public awareness about all forms
of violence against women in their communities.
This international campaign which sprang from the first Women’s
Institute for Global Leadership, connects violence against women
and human rights, emphasising that all forms of violence, regardless
of the place it appears, public or private sphere of life, violate
human rights.
The campaign seeks to:
- raise public awareness of gender based violence within the framework
of violation of human rights
- ensure better protection for victims of violence and
- demand the elimination of violence.
The Campaign runs from 25th November – 10th December, these
dates include:
- 25th of November - International Day of Activism Against Violence
Against Women.
- 1st of December - World AIDS Day – this year’s theme
is Women and HIV/AIDs.
- 6th of December - The Montreal Massacre.
- 10th of December - International Human Rights Day.
