YWCA Scotland

YWCA Scotland enables women, particularly those under 30, to develop their full potential and participate at all levels of society

We deliver a range of services for girls and women through our centres in Livingston, Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh. We provide girls' and women's groups, educational, personal and leadership development and a range of opportunities to develop skills and experience in the arts, events organisation and campaigning. We work in partnership with a range of organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector to deliver our services to mainly marginalised communities.

Nationally, the YWCA Scotland is working to establish itself as a key contributor to policy debate and to provide a platform for young women to have their voices heard. We take a leading position on the issues affecting young women in Scotland today ensuring that the services we provide are responsive to genuine need.

Young women are supported to participate at all levels of our decision-making process including serving on local advisory committees at Board level and representing YWCA of G.B. at European Representatives meetings. Externally, young women have the opportunity to represent YWCA Scotland on Scottish Youth Parliament and U.K. Youth Parliament and the European Women’s Lobby.

Campaigning
We campaign to support policies that promote equal opportunities for women including:

  • Violence against women
  • Positive body image
  • Fair Trade

Celebrating Diversity
We ensure our services are welcoming, inclusive and relevant to all. We oppose direct or indirect discrimination on the grounds of gender, ability, ethnicity, sexuality and faith in our provision of services and within our membership, and will campaign to achieve these ends.

Valuing Volunteers
As a volunteer-led organisation YWCA Scotland is strongly committed to volunteering as a major force for empowering women of all ages, building self esteem, sharing existing skills and developing new ones. We need volunteers to contribute their time, expertise, energy and enthusiasm and in return we will ensure that each volunteer enjoys their involvement and gains from it in reaching their own personal potential.
