Lipa Hussain

Position: trustee

Experience: Hi there, my name is Lipa and Edinburgh proudly born and bred. Having been brought up in an encouraging and supportive family set up, I realised later in life, not all people, especially young girls and women have had the same opportunities as me whether that be here in Scotland or in my ancestor’s country of Bangladesh. The work that YWM is imperative to implementing changes that will create equal opportunities, a mission I want to be part of. I work within the voluntary sector specifically with women and I get the opportunity to see the great untapped potential that is out there. I have a great passion to be part of a network of women that will uplift each other and I hope my input will only contribute towards that. I work within the voluntary sector as a community engagement officer and I work with some incredibly hard-working women. I, also intern with the United Nation House Scotland and that role feeds my passion for current affairs and social causes. But most definitely my other passions would be my excellent skill at eating a good spicy curry! We, as women and girls in Scotland, have the potential to be anything we want to be regardless of our race, religion or any other barrier we consider. I hope as a Muslim, Asian female board member it will allow others to see through hard work and persistence that anything is achievable.
